IThe surgeon

Born in Siberia. Trained in two countries. Working in Gasport, New York, since 2002.

Dr. Kaplansky earned his first dental degree in Novosibirsk in 1993 and a second, cum laude, at the University at Buffalo in 1998, followed by a residency there. In 2007 he moved into a purpose-built facility, and since 2016 the practice has focused on surgery and implantology.

He chose to build one highly specialized practice on his own terms, rather than join a group or a DSO.

IIPhilosophy

The whole case, not just the procedure.

  1. The whole case

Excellent implant dentistry isn’t only surgical technique.

It’s diagnosis, patient selection, planning, communication, prosthetics, execution, complication management and maintenance.

  2. Predictable over impressive

I favor solutions that are predictable and reproducible over ones that are simply technically impressive.

At this stage, I’m less interested in proving that I can do something and more interested in deciding whether I should.

  3. The right growth

Growth is not automatically success. The right growth has to fit the person, the business, and the life.

I would rather have a smaller number of excellent people and a strong system than grow rapidly and lose control.

Slow is smooth and smooth is fast.

IIIThe work

Complex implant surgery, managed end to end.

  • Full-arch rehabilitation

Complex full-arch rehabilitation, planned around the final result rather than the surgery alone.

  • Zygomatic and pterygoid implants

Remote anchorage. He contributed to Dr. Dan Holtzclaw’s book on the subject, and the practice is a certified ZAGA Zygoma Center.

  • Revisions of failed implant work

Cases that did not go as planned, approached with the same discipline as a first case.

  • Surgery and prosthetics under one roof

Diagnosis, planning, surgery, provisionals, final prosthetics and maintenance, with an in-house lab.

8038 Rochester Road, Gasport, New York. A purpose-built facility since 2007.

VConsulting and mentorship

For dentists taking on complex implant care, or deciding whether to.

  • Clinical thinking
  • Case selection
  • Workflow
  • Referral relationships
  • Practice economics

I’d want them to say: he taught me how to think about the entire case, not just the procedure.
